PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of easily obtaining high purity of amorphous germanium dioxide. SOLUTION: Germanium tetrachloride is allowed to react with ammonia to obtain germanium oxide, the obtained germanium oxide is dried, thereafter, pulverized into less than 500μm and is heat-treated at 338-600 deg.C for 4-48 hrs under coexistence of oxygen, preferably for 5-15 hrs. As the ammonia, an 1-10% aqueous ammonia solution is desirably used and the germanium oxide is desirably pulverized into less than 500μm as the pulverization after drying.
