The obth. iron sulfate soln. 16 is reacted with ammonia water 10 in the presence of a coal slurry 8 prepared by dispersing fine particles of coal in a solvent so as to obtain a coal slurry 7 containing coal with deposition of the catalyst comprising the catalyst with iron highly dispersed to be used for the iron-sulfur coal liquefaction catalyst.
