摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a single crystal fiber of potassium hexatitanate having a fiber form with a comparatively large fiber diameter and a small aspect ratio, and excellent in reinforcing properties. SOLUTION: A powder mixture of titanium dioxide and potassium oxide (TiO2 /K2 O=1.5-2.5) is fired at 700-950 deg.C to provide a single crystal powder of potassium dititanate. A titanium dioxide powder is added to the obtained potassium dititanate powder so that the ratio of TiO2 /K2 O may be 5.8-6.2 and the obtained mixture is fired at 900-1,350 deg.C to provide the objective potassium hexatitanate fiber in the method for producing the single crystal fiber of the potassium hexatitanate. The obtained potassium hexatitanate fiber has a single crystal fiber shape with about 3.5μm or more fiber diameter and about 3 or less aspect ratio, and is provided to various technological application without fear of safety and health problems such as an asbestos fiber. For example, the potassium hexatitanate fiber is suitably used as a filler for improving frictional wear characteristics of a friction material for a brake for an automobile.
