PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a high quality image at a high speed using an intermediate transfer body made of a material having a high ink transfer ratio, high mechanical strength, high solution resistance and high chemical resistance. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 comprises an endless tape-like intermediate transfer body 40 entrained about an intermediate transfer body feed roller 45 and a transfer heat roller 50. An ink jet 20 is disposed in the vicinity of the roller 45 while the facing intermediate transfer body 40. A platen roller 70 is disposed in the vicinity of the roller 50 such that the roller 70 can come into contact with the intermediate transfer body 40 and a recording medium, i.e., a recording sheet 60, along with the transfer heat roller 50. Surface layer of the intermediate transfer body 40 is formed of fluororesin, a base material layer is formed of polyimide and the contact angle between ink and the surface layer of the intermediate transfer body is set larger than 30 deg. at the time of transferring ink to the recording sheet 60. |
