PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge the effectiveness of an interferon against genotype 1b hepatitis C virus by determining the amino acid sequence in ISD core domain of the genotype 1b hepatitis C virus in a specimen. SOLUTION: The effectiveness of an interferon therapy against genotype 1b hepatitis C virus is judged by the following procedure: the domain encoding ISD domain composed of the 2209th to 2248th amino acids in genotype 1b hepatitis C virus in a specimen, or the domain including that complementary to the above-mentioned domain, is amplified using an oligonucleotide primer having a base sequence of formula I, II, III or IV; subsequently, the amino acid sequence in the resulting ISD core domain composed of the 2217th to 2220th amino acids in the genotype 1b hepatitis C virus is determined, and the number of sites in the determined amino acid sequence differing from the sequence of the formula, Thr-His-His Asp is examined. |
