PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sliding member having an excellent coefficient of friction and stable sliding wear performances. SOLUTION: This sliding member comprises a sintered compact which has a sliding surface while directly coming into contact with a ceramic, a metal or an organic substance, is composed of an alumina crystal phase having <=10 μm average particle diameter as a main phase and at least one crystal phase selected from the group consisting of TiO2 , MgAl2 O4 and FeAl2 O4 dispersed as crystal particles having <=0.3 μm average particle diameter in the ratio of >=1 vol.% in the whole amount. The void content ratio in the sliding surface is $5% and the coefficient of friction when the sintered compacts are slid each other is <=0.7. |
