PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent welding workability by adjusting, in a specified range, the magnetic permeability of flux covered to a core wire and the ratio of the covered thickness of the flux to the diameter of the core wire to prevent the occurrence of a magnetic blow without using a special device of an electromagnet etc. SOLUTION: When flux magnetic permeability is (a), a flux covered thickness is (s), a core wire diameter is (t), the value of X calculated in formula X=(a-1)×exp(42s/t) is made as 160-2×10<8> . The magnitude permeability of the flux (a) can be controlled by adjusting the content, the grain size distribution, the surface shape etc., of raw materials having the magnetism of iron powder, ferro-silicon powder, ferromanganese powder, other ferrous alloy powder, cobalt powder, cobalt alloy powder, nickel powder, nickel alloy powder etc., in the flux raw materials. When the diameter of a covered arc welding rod is (u), the covered thickness of the flux (s) is calculated by formula of s=(u-t)/2.
