PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet of a filtering material capable of collecting dust from coarse size to fine size and durable for long time use and to provide a filter employing the filtering material. SOLUTION: This filtering material is a nonwoven fabric produced by mixing 5 mass % or higher extremely thin fiber with average fiber diameter of 0.1-10μm and 50-95 mass % of thermally fusible fiber with an average fiber diameter of 10-100μm which are made of a melt blow method and melting the thermally fusible fiber. This filter comprises the filtering material so arranged as to keep the filtration face at 90 deg. to the flow direction of a liquid to be filtered or at angle besides 90 deg..
