PRODUCTION OF HIGH-PURITY CYCLOHEXANOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce cyclohexanol with a reduced content of methylcyclohexanol which is an impurity in a method for producing the cyclohexanol using benzene as a raw material. SOLUTION: The weight ratio of methylcyclohexene in cyclohexanol to the methylcyclohexene accompanying cyclohexene is controlled to >=1/300 when hydrating the cyclohexene obtained by partial hydrogenation of benzene, separating the resultant mixture consisting essentially of cyclohexanol and the unreacted cyclohexene into a component consisting essentially of the cyclohexene and a component consisting essentially of the cyclohexanol, circulating the component consisting essentially of the cyclohexene to the hydrating step and recovering the component consisting essentially of the cyclohexanol.
