The chair (1) has a seat (2) that is moved between horizontal (P1) and vertical positions. The back (3) is fixed to the top (4B) of a tubular column (4) whose lower end (4A) is joined to a base (7). A guide (5) and a motor, to move the seat, are held in the column. A sleeve (9) is joined to the projecting shaft (6A) of the motor and the seat, to support it.
