<p>A damping device (10) for use in a drive line, the device (10) including co-axially arranged first and second parts (11, 12) which can rotate relative to each other by a limited amount in response to torsional vibrations and/or torque fluctuations in the drive line. The device also includes a spring (50) which is stressed in at least two independent manners to resist relative rotation of the first and second parts (11, 12) and hence damp the said vibrations and/or fluctuations. The damping device (10) may form part of a twin mass flywheel (1) or a fluid coupling such as a torque converter or fottinger coupling. There is also disclosed a damping device (10) in which the co-axially arranged first and second parts (11, 12) are interconnected by a linkage. A friction damper (60, see Figure 3) is provided which acts directly on components pivotally connected by a pivot of the linkage. The friction damper being arranged co-axially of the pivot.</p> |
