METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INTERPOLATED PIXEL GENERATION

An interpolation pixel generator for providing interpolated pixels that prevent the profile of enlarged characters from blurring, even if magnification is increased, on a dot-matrix display capable of displaying enlarged images. An interpolation curve generator (20) generates an interpolation curve that connects a pair of pixels existing in an original image. The interpolation curve includes low-gradient portions near the pair of original pixels and high-gradient portions in the middle. An interpolation curve modifier (21) preferably modifies the curve by increasing its gradients in the middle as the magnification of an image increases. An interpolation pixel processor (22) determines pixels to be interpolated between the pair of original pixels according to the modified curve.
