A handlebar assembly and method of making same including cutting a straight handlebar tube (11) to a desired length, forming a reinforcing member or slug (20) to fit within the tube (11) including drilling and tapping radial bores (21, 22) and forming a longitudinal groove (26) in the slug (20) for the passage of control wires (32, 33) etc. Somewhat larger diameter bores (35, 36) are formed near the center of the handlebar tube (11) in registry with the bores (21, 22) in the slug (20). The slug (20) is then fixed in the tube (11) in the desired position after which the tube is bent to the desired configuration and handgrip (14) sections are formed. The handlebar is then finished as by chrome plating. A mount (12) is formed having bores (24, 25) spaced like those of the slug (20) and a longitudinal groove (16) to support the center section of the handlebar. The mount (12) is then finished as desired. Threaded fastener members (13) are then passed through the bores (24, 25) in the mount and the handlebar and are screwed into the threaded bores (21, 22) in the slug (20) to secure the assembly together. |
