The folding roof for a convertible automobile, with a folding cover and a rear window in a frame, has fabric flaps (12) at the frame (2) which swing on an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of their associated frame sections. When the fabric flaps (12) are folded in, the roof cover (1) is clamped between the frame (2) and fabric flaps (12) when the roof is closed. When the fabric flaps (12) are open, the rear window (3) together with the frame (2) and flaps (12) swings on a trailing axis (5) at least close to the rain gutter (4) for the rear window (3), to stow the window (3).
