The spanner can tighten a fixing nut on a standing bolt of a fitting for the assembly of e.g. a wash bowl against a preferably horizontal surface. The attachment region (13) of the spanner has six opposite internal surfaces (15) running conically inwards, in clamping connection with the fixing nut, and preferably symmetrical to the longitudinal axis of the spanner. The spanner is in the form of a long hollow body (12) which entirely encloses the standing bolt of the fitting during assembly.
