The invention concerns a device for the occlusion of cardiac, vascular and other defects. It also concerns the instrument used for positioning the occlusion device as well as the method for using said device and instrument. The occlusion device consists of a distal part (1) with relatively rigid surface, substantially planar, even slightly curved, and greater than the defect cross section, said distal part (1) being provided with means (2) for making it integral with an instrument; a proximal part (3) with relatively rigid surface, substantially planar, even slightly curved, and greater than the defect cross section, said proximal part (3) being provided with means (4) for making it integral with said instrument. The two parts are provided each with at least fixing means (8, 9) for making them mutually integral.
