The method involves measuring at least two signals (S1,S2) at least approximately describing identical geometric properties of the railway track at at least two mutually relatively movable separate positions on the vehicle. A time delayed version (S0) of the first signal is formed. The sum and difference of the weighted second signal and weighted, delayed first signal are formed using real coefficients and used to generate a control signal. A speed correction signal (deltaV) is derived from the control signal (deltaS). The corrected speed signal is formed by adding the speed correction signal to a predefined speed signal (V0).
