The implant is equipped with several axially parallel positioned bores for the insertion of sticks with tapered ends. The sticks can be of different lengths according to the condition of the bone of the patient. Threaded bolts which had been used up to date for fixing the implant to the bone were known to transport tiny plastic particles from the transplant into the bone where they could cause an infection, which was made even more uncomfortable for the patient by the permanent motion of the bolts inside the infected bone.
