The equalization method involves evaluating the received signal (1) using threshold values via a decision circuit with at least four decision stages (2), coupled to delay logic (6) via a multiplexer (4). A feedback signal (9,10) is received from the delay logic. The decision thresholds are adaptively adjusted via a digital processor (12). Independent claims are included for a feedback filter for signal equalization, the application of a feedback filter, an equalization circuit and an optical receiver.
