The rifle has a gas controlled locking device. At least one pressure leveling piston (9) is fitted to the weapon in a cylinder (8). This piston, at least for as long as the round (2) is in the barrel, has the same pressure resistance characteristics as the control piston (6) which controls the weapon's locking device. The two pistons may lie on the same axis and may move in opposite directions.
