The band is a temperature-resistant, expansible, steam-resistant wrapping, coated with a highly diffusion- and steam-resistant elastomeric material. Preferred Features: The reinforcement (1) is woven strip or broad fabric, of thickness 0.1-0.5 mm, especially 0.3-0.4 mm. The weave density is 50-150%, especially 75-125%. It is alternatively a somewhat thicker mesh, knit or hose. The coating (2) is applied to one side, to a thickness of 0.1-1.0 mm, especially 0.3-0.7 mm. It is coated both sides, to a slightly greater specified thickness. Adhesive bonding between reinforcement and elastomer is promoted by vulcanization. When using broad fabric, longitudinal strips are cut from the vulcanized composite.
