Sulfur-free, i.e. less than 50 ppm S, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) thermoplastics molding materials are used with non-ferrous metal tools in the production of molded bodies, e.g. by molding and injection molding. An Independent claim is included for the production of PMMA molding material based on PMMA-homo- and/or copolymers by polymerization of (wt.%): (i) 80-100 methyl methacrylate, (ii) 0-20 of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with (i), where (I) and (ii) = 100 wt.%, (iii) 0.05-5 wt.% relative to (i)+(ii) = 100 wt.% of at least 1 sulfur-free molecular weight regulator, and (iv) up to 100 wt.%, relative to (i)+(ii) = 100 wt.% of conventional molding material additives, where the mean molecular weight of the regulator Mw = 5.10<4>-2.5.10<5>.
