The device has a fixed positionable carrier (2), on which a horizontal arm (3) is arranged. A laser emitter (4') fixed to the arm can either be displaced horizontally on the arm of the carrier beyond the base surface (5) of the carrier, or co-operates with a mirror on the arm, arranged outside the base surface. An Independent claim is also given for a method of using the alignment device.
