A memory module controller (800) for interfacing a plurality of memory devices on a memory module with a system memory bus (823) coupled to a system memory module. The memory module controller (800) includes first interface circuitry (804) and control logic (802). The first interface circuitry (804) is configured to receive from the system memory bus (823) a first memory transaction having a first format. The control logic (802) is coupled to the first interface circuitry (804) and generates a second memory transaction for the plurality of memory devices. The second memory transaction corresponds to the first memory transaction and has a second format different than the first format of the first memory transaction.
