The roll has a coating (11) over the entire curved surface. This coating contains at least aluminium oxide and silicon oxide, in the form of mullite. The coating may contain titanium oxide and/or chromium oxide. It may be applied by hot injection, possibly onto an underlay (10) including the elements nickel and/or cobalt, and/or iron and/or molybdenum and/or chromium and/or aluminium and/or yttrium. The underlay may also be applied by hot injection. The coating is 0.1-1.0 mm thick, pref. 0.5 mm thick. The thickness of the underlay is 0.05-1.0 mm.
