Apparatus and method of treating OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) are disclosed wherein a Positive Airway Pressure device is utilised to provide a gases supply which is then passed through a humidifier. As the amount of water vapour generated by the humidifier is very low at start up (typically the humidifier comprises a water container on a heating plate) the pressure of gases supplied by the apparatus are controlled so that the required pressure and resulting flow rate is reached at the same time as the required humidity level is reached. A control strategy is disclosed where the pressure is incrementally adjusted to keep pace with the increases in humidity. By means of a controller 9 which adjusts the speed of fan 21 in response to the humidity level which is estimated on the basis of temperature. |
