发明名称 REFLECTION TYPE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION
摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a refractive index difference between high polymer layers and liquid crystal layers in the state of not impressing an electric field to reflection layers alternately laminated with the high polymer layers and the liquid crystal layers. SOLUTION: A photodegradable polyimide is applied on the electrode 12 on a substrate 11 and is heated to form a polyimide film 21b. At this time, the polyimide chains 1 in the polyimide film 21b face random directions. Next, a mixture composed of liquid crystals and a photopolymerizable monomer is applied on the polyimide film 21b and is irradiated with polarizing UV rays having the polarization direction in a direction perpendicular to the substrate plane. As a result, the liquid crystal layer 22b of a PDLC structure is formed on the polyimide film 21b. The polyimide chains 1a in the same direction as the polarization direction of the polarizing UV rays are decomposed in the polyimide film 21b and only the polyimide chains 1b in the direction perpendicular to the polarization direction of the polarizing UV rays remain. The liquid crystal molecules 3a in the liquid crystal layer 22b are aligned in the substrate plane direction by the remaining polyimide chains 1b. The reflection layers are obtd. by alternately laminating and forming the polyimide film 21b and the liquid crystal layer 22b.
