PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint to sufficiently absorb approach between the end parts of bridges due to elongation of a bridge and an earthquake, and having excellent vehicle runability. SOLUTION: An expansion joint spanning between bridges H and H positioned facing each other has a groove extending at an orthogonal direction to the direction of a bridge axis and having elastic members 1 formed in an upper and under surfaces. An elastic part between an approaching groove 10 on the upper surface side and a groove 11 on the under surface side forms a deformation part 12. When the bridges H and H approach and part from each other, the width of the groove on the upper surface side is contracted and expanded along with shear deformation of the deformation part 12. In this case, a compression deformation part 13 further easily deformed than the constituting material itself of the elastic member 1 is arranged at the elastic member 1 part separated away from the groove 10 on the upper surface side based on the groove 11 on the under surface side. |
