PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent announcement of an incoming call even when a user subscribed to a call originating telephone number display service sets the announcement of an incoming call at the time of receiving a start signal erroneously or without consciousness. SOLUTION: The telephone system is provided with a bell for announcing an incoming call, a switch 122 for setting a first mode which does not announce the incoming call by the bell 10 even when the start signal is received and the second mode which announces the incoming call by the bell 10 when the start signal is received, an information reception terminal start signal(CAR) detecting circuit 31 for detecting the start signal, a MODEM signal detecting circuit 32 for detecting a MODEM signal and a control means for setting the first mode regardless of mode setting by the switch 122 when the MODEM signal is detected by the MODEM signal detecting circuit 32 after the detection of the start signal by the CAR detecting circuit 31.
