PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polypeptide for screening of an antibacterial compound and treatment, diagnosis, etc., of infection due to the genus Streptococcus, comprising an isolated polypeptide containing sequence having identity of various levels over total length of a specific amino acid sequence. SOLUTION: This new MurB polypeptide comprises an isolated polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence having at least 70% identity, 80% identity, 90% identity or 95% identity to amino acid sequence of formula I or formula II over total length of formula I or formula II, an amino acid sequence of formula I or formula IT or an isolated polypeptide, etc., containing an amino acid sequence of formula I or formula II, and the polypeptide is useful for screening of antibacterial compound and treatment, diagnosis, etc., of infection due to Streptococcus pneumoniae. The polypeptide is obtained by probing chromosomal DNA library of Streptococcus pneumoniae with labeled oligonucleotide derived from a partial sequence and expressing the resultant gene in a host cell. |
