PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the proliferation of Clostridium botulinum by adding hop extract ingredients to foods or drinks. SOLUTION: This method for inhibiting the proliferation of Clostridium botulinum in foods or drinks comprises immersing or spraying the foods or the drinks with a solution, preferably an ethanol solution, of a hop extract or the ingredients of the hop extract in a concentration of >=1 ppm, preferably at least 5 ppm, preferably further containingβ-acid preferably in the presence of a surfactant such as tween 80.
