PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject E. coli having an organic solvent resistance, expanding the utilization range of a solvent overlaying fermentation method and useful for the production of medicinal raw material by transforming the E. coli with a gene such as acrA, acrB or tolC gene or the like. SOLUTION: This E. coli having an organic solvent resistance or having an enhanced organic solvent resistance, is obtained by transforming the E. coli with at least one gene of acrA, acrB or tolC gene for imparting the organic solvent resistance of <=5.5 log Pow value which is a common logarithm of the partition coefficient of an optional substance between two phases of water and n-octanol, and used as a measure of a toxicity of an organic solvent to the microorganism. Further, acrA, acrB and tolC genes are existing in E. coli K-12 strain. AcrA and acrB genes are existing in sox-mar regulon and relate to the medicinal resistance of the E. coli, and tolC is a gene for encoding its external membrane protein. |
