PURPOSE:To enable knocking control to be smoothly carried out, when the abnormality of an intake/exhaust valve timing control means is detected, by selecting a judgment parameter corresponding to a fixed valve timing condition. CONSTITUTION:In a device in which a driving circuit 21 for controlling a fuel injection valve 6 and an ignition plug 22, and a solenoid valve 23 for carrying out the valve-timing changeover control of intake/exhaust valves are controlled by an ECU 5, a knocking sensor 24 is fitted in the circumferential wall of a cylinder block in the vicinity of the top dead center. Based on the output of the knocking sensor 24, the occurrence of knocking is judged for controlling the ignition timing, and the judgment parameter of this knocking judgment is selected in accordance with the detected result of the valve timing condition. When the abnormality is valve timing control system is detected, the valve timing is fixed to a prescribed valve timing condition, and the judgment parameter corresponding to the fixed valve timing condition is selected. |
