The invention relates to a method for producing slabs of building material, comprising the following steps: a) production of a flexible, open-cell foamed block, b) immersion of said foamed block in a binding aqueous suspension made from a plaster semi-hydrate, c) compression and deformation of the foamed block, whereby the suspension is absorbed by the foamed block, d) removal of the fully soaked deformed foamed block from the suspension, binding and hardening of the plaster semi-hydrate whereby selenite is formed and e) evaporation of the water stored in the foamed material-selenite matrix until a relatively solid surface layer has formed. Evaporation and hardening can be speeded up by heating the main surfaces of the foamed block using contacting, pressurized hot plates at a temperature below 150 DEG C. |
