A medium pressure column (2) is connected to at least one conduit (17) for bringing in air for distillation, and a vapor-condenser (4) is placed in heat exchange relationship between the fluid from the head of the medium pressure column and fluid from the base of a low pressure column (3). The plant has at least two adjacent assemblies (10,11), the first having the medium pressure column and the second having the low pressure column and at least one liquid-rising device (6) for flowing a liquid between one of the columns and the vaporizer-condenser.
