A dismantlable door (22) seals an opening (24) in a chamber (20) of a washer. The door includes removable glass panes (36) and (38) which allow an operator to view the contents of the washing chamber during a washing cycle. A connecting member (40, 132, 156, 180, 200, 216, 220, 244, 250) seals the inner glass pane (36) to a frame (28) of the door by compressing a gasket (42). In one preferred embodiment, the connecting member also receives a lower end (102) of the outer pane (38) in a channel (100, 202'). In other preferred embodiments a channel (131, 242) or L-shaped flange (224) is connected with the lower end of the door frame for supporting the lower end (102) of the outer glass pane. In yet another preffered embodiment, fixing members (258) connect the outer glass pane to the connecting member. An air space (170) is formed between the inner and outer panes. Air is able to enter and leave the air space through air gaps between the channel and the outer panes. This allows the pressure within the air space to equilibrate and allows the two panes to flex independently in response to changes in surrounding ambient conditions. The outer pane can be removed from the channel or L-shaped flange for replacement or cleaning of the panes. The inner and outer panes can both be removed by unscrwewing the connecting member from the door frame.
