There are provided a method and apparatus for reducing the coherence of light using a simple structure, a method and apparatus for providing illumination with high intensity and free from speckles, and a fiber bundle for those purposes. Coherent light ( alpha ) is introduced to one end (3) of a fiber bundle (1) comprising a plurality of optical fibers (2a), (2b), ... that are different in length by more than the coherence length of the incident coherent light. An incoherent light beam is emitted from the other end (4) of the fiber bundle.
