An independent front wheel suspension system (10) has an upper and a lower cross guide and a shock absorber arrangement for each wheel suspended on the vehicle frame. The frame (12) incorporates partly two long side rails (14) and a cross bearer (16). The suspension system has a long lower cross guide (18) and a short upper cross guide (20). The cross guides are both pivotably fixed to the frame (12). A spring leg arrangement with a screw spring (22) and a shock absorber (24) is held between a central part of the lower cross guide and the frame and supports the weight of the bodywork and any further loads, which are transmitted via the lower cross guide (18). The upper cross guide is connected with the lower cross guide via a shaft leg (26).
