Human or animal hair is removed from a body using a laser beam which is reflected by a mirror with an articulated mount, onto a scanner unit and thence onto the skin. The mirror converts the light beam into a parallel beam with an adjustable cross-section. The laser is a 694 nm ruby laser with an output energy of up to 40 J/cm2. The beam is typically 5 x 5 mm to 10 x 10 cm.
