The invention relates to a method for producing mistletoe lectine polypeptides in homologous and heterologous host systems and to mistletoe lectine peptides as such. In addition, nucleic acid molecules are used for coding the mistletoe polypeptides. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions which comprise said mistletoe lectine polypeptides or mistletoe nucleic acids. In order to produce numerous mistletoe isoenzymes contained in natural mistletoe extract in sufficient amounts, said isoenzymes being able to trigger antitumorigenic and mood enhancing effects, the invention also provides a method which permits mistletoe lectines to be biotechnologically produced in required amounts and simultaneously permits understanding of the diversity of mistletoe isoenzymes of the natural mistletoe extract.
