The printer has a print head that can be moved in at least one direction, one or more ink chambers (13) of very small volume mounted on the head, one or more ink reservoir containers in the printer housing and tubes (12) connecting the ink chambers and reservoir containers. The ink chambers act as buffers for pressure or volume fluctuations in the tubes. A removable connection and a valve (9) are located between each reservoir container and associated tube for continuous monitored ink delivery.
