Serial port connection arrangement for several peripheral instruments e.g. for connection of different digital cameras on serial PC bus

The arrangement enables a data exchange between peripheral instruments and a serial port (30) of a computer in a first mode for a first cable type, and in a second mode for a second cable type. Adapter plugs (22) are arranged in a first group (100) for recording the cable types of the first mode, and in a second group (200) for recording the cable types of the second mode. The first group is coupled to a plug element (32), and the second group is coupled to the first group. The connection between the first and the second group comprises a wire which supplies a ground potential from the second group.
