Reinforcing large wooden, loadbearing beam, using composite strips

A longitudinal slot is introduced into each side surface (12) of the loadbearing beam (20). These slots extend over at least part of its length, and are spaced back from the visible (i.e. usually the lower) surface of the beam (10). Fiber-reinforced, flat laminar strips (24) are inserted into the slots, where they are anchored with adhesive (26).
