A machine tool has a materials bench-top which advances at a given fed rate under the control of a single spindle (35). It has guide rails (31). The advancement mechanism incorporates a first moving body (33) and a second moving body (34). The secondary body undertakes the role of an intermediate support. The moving body is supported by a guide rail and advances freely along its axis under the control of the spindle. The moving secondary body has a section whose inner diameter touches and slides along the spindle. The moving secondary body is supported by the spindle and moves freely in an axial direction. The inner diameter of the moving secondary body slides along the spindle.
