Stabilized fuel supply for an internal combustion engine in a heavy goods vehicle

A fuel transfer system uses a secondary reservoir (2), located inside a vehicle primary fuel tank and maintained filled by an eductor (5) irrespective of inclination or level variation in the primary tank. Back-flow through the reservoir submerged inlet (15) is restricted by causing the eductor jet to impinge on a surface (8), effectively producing a dynamic fluid curtain closure just inside the inlet. The motive fluid (6) for the eductor (5) is excess fuel, supplied to the engine from the secondary reservoir (2) by a pumping device (3) and returned to the tank by a recycle line (4). The eductor uses the motive fluid in a fluid energy mixing tube (7) to entrain more fuel from the primary tank and force it, against a liquid head, into the bottom of the reservoir (2).
