The light barrier includes a connection to an external control unit, over which a difference between the level of the reception signal at free radiation path and the first threshold value forming the sensitivity, as well as the difference forming the signal reserve between the level of the reception signal at free radiation path and the second threshold value can be modified. The light barrier includes a transmitter and a receiver at one end, emitting and receiving light rays, and a reflector arranged at its opposite end, on which the transmitted rays of light hit.
