The unit has a first games controller 52 integrated therein or connected thereto for receiving player input, an input 56 for connection to a second games controller 10 with a memory module 20, outputs 60, 62 for connection to a games console 100, and a selector 58 for selectively connecting the first output 60 to one of the games controllers. Thus, with the selector in a play state, each controller 52, 10 is connected to the console via a respective output 60, 62. A player can use the first controller 52 to play the game, and, on completion of the game, the selector can be switched to a memory access state in which the first output is connected to the second controller 10 to allow the console to communicate with controller 10 to store data in the memory module.
