The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method of providing communication between endpoints (14, 15) in a packet-based network using an IP-prococol. The arrangement comprises a Gatekeeper (12) function for managing call set-up. The Gatekeeper function is divided into a Basic Call Control platform (10) for performing rudimentary call handling and End Point Administration, and a Service Application Platform (11) for handling service requests and user profiles. The method includes the steps of receiving a requests for a function by the Basic Call Core (10) from the End Points (14, 15), forwarding the request to the Service Application Platform (11) where overhead is added to the request, comprising an envelope, forwarding the envelope from the SAP (11) to the correct Service, and stripping the envelope of the overhead and interpreting the information. |
