When not in use, the gangway (3) is stored horizontally on the deck, just inboard of the side rail (9). When required, it is rotated through 90 degrees and the lower end (10) is lowered to the quayside (2) by a winch (12). The length of the gangway is adjusted to suit the distance between deck and quay by a scissors mechanism (15) part way down. |
