PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supertwist liquid crystal display having a liquid crystal mixture and having a short response time, good sharpness and angle dependence by incorporating at least a specified compd. into the liquid crystal mixture. SOLUTION: This STN liquid crystal display contains a nematic liquid crystal mixture of a component (A) having a compd. expressed by formula I and a component (B) having a compd. expressed by formula II. In formula I, R<a> is 1-12C alkyl, alkoxy group or the like, R<b> is 1-5C alkyl group or the like, Z is -COO-, -CH2 CH2 - or a single bond, L<a> to L<h> are each independently H or F, however, (a) at least one of L<a> to L<h> is F and (b) the 1,4-phenylene ring has max. two fluorine atoms in one ring. In formula II, R<3> is 2-7C alkenyl group, R<4> is same as R<1> and (c) is 0 or 1. |
